introduction

My work in Painting includes work with photography and digital projection. Since the year 2000 I have made exhibition presentations and performance events under the name of White Noise Projects.

When I start making work in the studio there are many, often too many ideas and images made by other painters in there with me. Some quickly fall away, others hang around a bit longer - ideas of future cities, the cultural logic of late capitalism (Frederick Jameson) some pressing variables: territory, communication and speed (Michel Foucault) and the legacy of historical cultural producers: Eric Satie, Guillaume Apollinaire, Alfred Jarry and Henri Rousseau are permanent residents.

Forthcoming exhibitions/performances I am making have the interim title: Anxiety, Urgency, Outrage and Hope and are about interrupting horizons, closing down optical distances and sensory numbing. I think of these terms rather like theatrical events. The jester character is depicted as Vertical Running, the space he/she operates in never stands still and any flatness is an illusion.
